Afghanistan

“KOSH AMADEED”... Welcome to the Afghanistan Pavilion. Afghanistan (which literally means Land of Afghan) is a mountainous land-locked country located in Asia. It has history and culture that goes back over 5000 years, and has been an ancient focal point of trade and migration. It has an important geostrategic location, connecting south and central Asia and Middle East. During its long history, the land has seen various invaders and conquerors, while on the other hand, local entities invaded the surrounding vast region to form their own empires. In the late 19th century, Afghanistan became a buffer state. On august 19, 1919, following the third Anglo-Afghan war, the country regained full independence. In the past 30 years there has been war in Afghanistan which affected the lives of millions of people, including about 5 million refugees outside of Afghanistan. In order to preserve the afghan cultural heritage, in 1982 the afghan community formed the Edmonton Afghan Charitable Society.
