Dutch
Welcome to the Dutch Pavilion! The Dutch community is proud to represent their country of origin – the Netherlands and share their culture. Although we are known as “The Dutch” or “Holland”, our real name is The Kingdom of the Netherlands. The country would fit between Edmonton and Calgary; it is 150 km wide and 300 km long and as many as half the population of Canada live in that small area.
The culture of The Netherlands is diverse and reflects regional differences as well as multi-cultural influences from their immigrants. For centuries the Dutch people have played an important role in the world as a tolerant society. The Netherlands are a founding member of the European Union and their economy depends heavily on foreign trade.
The Dutch scenery is breathtaking, with century old architecture, canals in the cities and a rural landscape with waterways and old windmills. Scattered with farmland and tulip fields, the Netherlands attract many visitors from all over the world.
The Dutch people are innovative and industrious, always looking forward to the future while building on the past. We, as Dutch immigrants are grateful that the Edmontonians have welcomed us to live and work in this part of Alberta and Canada.
All volunteers of the Dutch Pavilion wish all of you a Happy 2011 Heritage Days!
