Croatian
Only a few can trace their origins as far back as the Croatians. Croatia is a cradle of ancient civilizations, and for centuries the Croatian ports along the Adriatic Sea have been an important maritime route between East and West. In 925 A.D., the Croatian Duke Tomislav was crowned as the first king of the Croatian people, resulting in the establishment of the first true Croatian nation. Our Edmonton Croatian community of at least 1,000 people honours its traditional customs by supporting the Nativity of Mary Croatian Catholic Church, the Domagoj Croatian Dance School, the Croatian Radio Program, the Croatian School Program, and the Croatian Soccer Club. We have been proud participants in the Heritage Festival since the second year, and the Croatian pavilion has been awarded “best pavilion” status at least twice. We welcome you, and hope that you take a moment to enjoy a taste of the Croatian food and dance that have impressed visitors for many, many years!
