Congo

The Congolese Community of Edmonton has known significant growth during the last seven years. On average, the estimated number of Congolese people in Edmonton is in the range of three thousand. The majority of the Congolese people are Francophone and commonly fluent in other languages such as English, Lingala Swahili, Thsiluba and Kikongo. They come from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which is the third largest country by area on the African continent. Congo received its independence from Belgium in 1960. Today the population of Congo is about 50 million with more than a hundred ethnic tribes that make the cultural diversity of the Congolese people.
In Edmonton the Congolese people have businesses, food shops and clothing shops. You are welcome to visit the Congolese pavilion.
