Chinese
The Chinese Pavilion is representative of all Chinese people, some of whom have emigrated from mainland China to many corners of the world. Many Chinese-Canadians have kept their culture, traditions, and language. Here in Edmonton, several well-known Chinese traditions include the Harvest Moon festival, Chinese New Year, and the Dragon Boat festival.
For language tradition, you can hear Mandarin and other Chinese dialects spoken on the street of Edmonton. Many people have shown interest in learning the Chinese language after the world class 2008 Olympics.
This year we are again showcasing the rich culture diversity from the Chinese people. At our landmark pavilion with the yellow dragon, you can experience exciting performances of the cultural arts such as lion dance, fan dance, traditional Chinese dance, modern dance and music from classical instruments and drums; you can also see traditional martial arts such as Tai Chi, Wuhu, and Kung Fu. Furthermore, enjoy a memorable visit by shopping for unique and treasured Chinese arts and crafts, and then learn a few words of Chinese or have auspicious Chinese characters written for you on a paper fan. In addition, sample the tantalizing aromas of popular Chinese cuisine, featuring green onion cakes, Shanghai noodles, ginger beef, fried rice, spring rolls, and more. Come and experience the sight and sound of Chinese culture at the 2011 Servus Heritage Festival!
