Caribbean
This region is also known as the “West Indies”, which is made up of forty islands and costal territories beginning at the tip of Florida and extends to the northern coast of South America. The Caribbean people have a variety of culture and language. The 1960s was a significant time for immigration for people from the Caribbean to Edmonton. With the availability of jobs and educational opportunities in Alberta, many skilled Caribbean immigrants came out west from other provinces, where they could use their skills and education. With the migration of Caribbean people to Edmonton, many different organizations promoting the rich culture in sports, music, art, and dancing were started such as the Cariwest, Movements, and the Trincan Steel Band. The peoples of the Caribbean have contributed a great deal to the province of Alberta and have become proud Canadians. Visit our pavilion and experience the tropical paradise of the Caribbean!
